About the Labor Library

The Institute for Labor Studies and Research Chuck Schwartz Labor Library provides union members and members of the general public with access to historically significant resources documenting the history of labor unions and the growth of the labor movement in Rhode Island. The Library was dedicated in memory of Chuck Schwartz (1948-2006), former Executive Director of ILSR. A beloved labor leader, Chuck is remembered for his dedication to the ILSR mission and for his work to preserve labor history. He was instrumental in creating the ILSR archives, often seen with a camera at pickets and strikes.
