First Mile Program
The ILSR First Mile Career Navigation program breaks down barriers to accessing quality workforce training and employment opportunities in the Education and Green Energy sectors. First Mile provides industry-specific academic and workplace skill preparation.
The First Mile to Education Careers Track is the beginning of a pathway to teaching. ILSR provides Teacher Assistant Training, approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Training graduates have the opportunity to become a full-time, part-time or substitute teacher assistant.
Registered Teacher Apprenticeship is the next step on the pathway to teaching for ILSR TA Training graduates selected by Joint Apprenticeship Training Councils in their respective school district. The First Mile to Green Energy Careers Track provides pathways to family sustaining union jobs in the green energy sector. In partnership with the Brotherhood of Utility Workers Council UWUA Local 310, Rhode Island Energy, and Climate Jobs Rhode Island, ILSR is piloting a Utility Work Cohort in September 2026!
